Kombucha Power Rankings
In my ideal life I drink one to two kombuchas a day. The best kombucha brand you can buy bottles from is Synergy (I am still thinking about the kombucha I had on tap in Maine). TRAGICALLY, the Bow Wow no longer stocks it, and only has Health-Ade, which is notably worse and sometimes too funky, even for me.
Here are all of the Synergy flavors I’ve tried, ranked. Yale please bring them back.
Trilogy: Classic, unbeatable, always my first choice.
Honeycrisp Apple: Honeycrisp apples are the superior variety, so I was very happy when they released this flavor. It’s crisp, it’s warm, it’s autumnal. Perfect seasonal kombucha.
Pure Love (Winter Edition): I think this is a special Valentine’s Day flavor but I wish they had it year round. It’s a combination of blood orange, hibiscus, and rose, so it’s floral and citrusy and perfect.
Gingerade: I get this flavor whenever I feel like I’m about to get sick.
Watermelon Wonder: Tastes like funky fizzy watermelon juice! This is my ideal beverage in the summer when I’m walking around New York and have to desperately enter a grocery store in search of a cold refreshing beverage.
Gingerberry: This tastes like gingerade if you add a little bit of blueberry. Sweet, spicy deliciousness.
Cosmic Cranberry: I grew up drinking cranberry juice mixed with seltzer water. It was my favorite drink as a kid, and I’d mix it up with a straw and sip it as I sat at the kitchen table with my mom. This flavor reminds me of that killer combination…
Guava Goddess: Tropical and fun. I don’t know if I’ve ever tried guava, but it tastes like pineapple and strawberry.
Peach Paradise: The color of this flavor looks eerily similar to Guava Goddess, but the peach is very distinct and sweet and tangy.
Island Bliss: I think this is the most unique flavor Synergy makes. It’s very passion fruit heavy, which is my favorite fruit to eat with a spoon.
Lemon Berry: Can’t go wrong, it tastes like berry lemonade.
Strawberry Serenity: Fruity, tangy, kind of forgettable.
Tangerine Dream: I rarely get this one, but when I do, I’m reminded of drinking orangina in backyards in the summertime. My one note is that it’s a little bit thick (sorry).
Pure: I put off trying this one for a while because it’s so uninteresting, but the unflavored kombucha is actually quite good.
Strawberry Lemonade: Good, but not as good as it should be. Strawberry lemonade is one of the greatest inventions of all time. This drink is just okay.
Living in Gratitude (Fall Edition): Very warm, spiced flavors. But if you want to get a fall-themed kombucha, you should get Honeycrisp Apple. The carrot and turmeric in this is weird.
Elderberry Juniper: A tad medicinal, maybe because I used to take elderberry zinc supplements when I thought I was getting sick?
Unity (Summer Edition): Why did they put lemongrass?
Pomelo Pink Lemonade: This is the first customer-generated flavor, and the tartness of the pomelo and yuzu works. But it lacks carbonation, and I like my kombucha to be so fizzy it almost hurts to drink. So it’s a pass.
Blood Orange: In theory, this would be one of my favorite flavors. I love blood oranges and I think the fruit itself is so beautiful. But this kombucha has a weirdly bitter aftertaste that I can’t get over.
There are still a few flavors I have yet to try, but they are next on my list.
Glorious Grapefruit
Mystic Mango
Golden Pineapple
Sacred Life
Raspberry Chia
Marine-Greens
